With the construction of the new Caneyville Elementary School, I was wondering what the alums think about the future for our alma mater's old building. Is there any plan in the works for it? Hello once again from Michael Nugent , Ronnie Nugent's son. My sister and I bought our parents a computer for Christmas and so my father can now receive emails from all his Kentucky friends. His ISP email is rcnugent@nts-online.net I am not sure if he is going to to keep his ron_runs@yahoo.com but know he is checking the rcnugent@nts-online.net because all he has to do is click on the outlook expresses icon Please email him so can email you back. It was funny trying to explain to my parents "how to turn on the computer" So your emails will help force him to use the computer. Thanks for bringing back some great memories. As a cheerleader for Clarkson High School(1956-60), I remember the old Caneyville gym and the intense rivalries between Clarkson and Leitchfield and Clarkson and Caneyville. If we won, we were ecstatic; if we lost, it was a quiet ride home on the bus. Incidentally, my brother, Pat Tully was basketball coach at Caneyville in the late 50s. Hello all I just found this site and it is good to read commets from some of the "old Purple Flash Kids" I finished high school in 1957. I "tried to play basketball" in the years 1956 and 1957, but did not do to good. I was really fun tho. I really enjoyed my days at Caneyville High and have good memories of those days.

The "School fairs" in October was really something, was it not???

The "Bus station" the "Bun Box" At Leitchfield all good memories.

well that is enough for me at this time I would like to see some of the ole gang but life is "Busy"

Good health to all

my grandfather was mr. ramon majors who most of you remember was principal at caneyville high school for 24 years. he died in 1978 when i was only 12 yrs old. however, i have fond memories of caneyville high scholl, especially playing in his office and in the gym. mrs. ramon majors(corrine) just passed away this past july,2003. i have very fond memories of my grandparents as well as my other grandpartents mr. and mrs. duvall morrison. mr. morrison was a social studies teacher and 1st guidance counselor at caneyville h.s.(also, he was quite a character!!) i went to grade school at caneyville but felt somewhat cheated because i never got to attend high school at caneyville. my father was the starting point guard on the 1962 semi-final basketball team. he hit the shot at the buzzer to beat butler co. in the regional final(he and mr. mcghee agree that the shot did leave his hand in time!!) i love this website and will tell other about it. go purple flash!!

Great website. Ronnie Nugent just steered me to it. I wish I had thought of it. Donna has done a good. I would have been class of '64 if I had not moved to New Albany, IN after my sophomore year. However the Caneyville class of '64 is the class I most identify with and everyone remains dear to my heart. I am looking forward to the reunion in May. I do have an invite so I won't have to crash. Hope to see everyone there. If you go to my website and follow the Family History or the Additional Information link you will find my address, phone # and email. So email me, write to me, call me or do all three.

I would like to thank all who made the Caneyville Class of 64 reunion such a memorable occasion for me. I enjoyed it immensely. My cousin Billy Beatty and his lady friend are still talking about it even though he got stopped by the police on the way out...23 in a 15 mph zone. The picnic was great. The only regret was that I had to leave early to arrive home at a decent hour in order to meet a next day work committment...not to mention that I had ran out of clean underwear. It was great to renew friendships that had languished for 42 years.

Thanks to Sissy Wallace for cluing me to the event and Asa Noblett for trying to contact me. Thanks to Ronnie Nugent for getting me on the list and the follow up phone calls and emails. Thanks to Suzanne Reisinger for keeping me updated with details. Thank you Jim Mahurin, Judy Hazel, Junior Shain and anyone else that had a hand in putting together such a great event. I am looking forward to the next in five years. Hopefully Jim Mahurin will take Nancy Majors' request to heart and we will have one sooner.

If I can assist in anyway with the next reunion please contact me. If there is any loose ends from this last one that needs securing and I can help, let me know.

As with a lot of people, I stumbled upon this site. My name is Sheila (Lindsey) Mashburn, I am married to Sammy Mashburn ('72). I attended Caneyville High through my sophmore year and finished the remaining two years at GCHS ('76). I can't wait to show Sam this site. He played basketball for CHS and other sports as well. Sam and I have two boys, Joshua (16) and Benjamin (11). We live in Caneyville and love it. Sam is with Kentucky Utilities and I work out of the home for Midway Pharmacy. I know that Sam would love to hear from any of his friends from high school. Our e-mail address is sheila002@alltel.net Sheila Mashburn

It's not every day that you see a website devoted to the "Purple Flash"! I was glad to find it. I am a true devoted fan of Caneyville, and remember well the glory days of High School basketball, I had an the advantage point of being around legs,I was only 6 years old. At that point of view, I was drug through a crowd of folks into the gym, and handed up by neighbors, family, and friends, up the large wooden bleacher steps to my seat. It was a sea of noise, heat, cheering, and fun! I loved everything about Caneyville High School basketball. I attended first grade in Mrs. Lee's class during 1970-71, from there we moved to Louisville. My name is Ann Embry Brooks, I am married to one of Pat and Glady's sons Jeff, (remember the Caneyville Coffee Shop)! It's still there, though Gladys passed away in 2001. email me at anneB_2001@hotmail.com "still holding down the fort in Caneyville~ God Bless You"

Amazing things happen when you Google "Caneyville." I'm glad I found this site. Lots of great memories... and I was only at CHS for three years. Moved from Florida during summer of '69; graduated in '72. I guess I was the resident geek. Didn't do FFA; didn't play basketball; DID have lots of fun and always felt that I had come "home." Like lots of you, my family roots in Grayson County go back to the early 1800's. I met "cousins" in just about every class. School Fairs were, as my kids would say, "the bomb." And the basketball games... well, you just had to be there. I moved to Nashville for college, got a wife and a job there and stayed until three years ago. After 20 years working for the phone company, then 5 years as a small-town pastor, I'm at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas as a speech professor. (Who'da thunk it???) I'd enjoy hearing from any of the early '70s crowd. E-mail: karlpayton@letu.edu

Greetings from North Pole Alaska:

Yes we really do live in Alaska and we are just a few minutes from Santa Clause House.
This is Michael Hayes from class of 1974 and Linda Probus Hayes from class of 1974.

We moved to Alaska in 1977 due to the Airforce and in 1980 when Mike was released from the Airforce we decided to stay, We moved to the North Pole area in 1979 and been their since. We would love to hear from some of our old school friends. We have two children, Rebecca is 23, has a degree in BFA, she has her own business: Red Sutter Studios. She is newly married to a wonderful young man. Daniel is 22 and he is in charge of the stocking grew (grocieries) at our local grocery store Safeway. He works all the time.

Mike is retired again, and hopes to be fishing and hunting, all summer. I am not working at the present time. I have had cancer twice and as far as we know I am cancer free. I am having problems with my back at the present time. We are waiting for summer. We must of had 4-5 inches of snow this morning. We would love to hear from you. Linda and Mike Hayes.

Hi: This is Linda Probus Hayes again, I forget to post our email address so that classmates, friends or family could email us if they wanted to. Our address is mhayes@gci.net. I graduated from the class of 1974 at Caneyvillie. Thank you. Linda

Hello,

I attended Shrewsbury School for 7 years, Caneyville for 3 years, Grayson County for 2 years and ECTC for 2 years (almost 30 years after high school).

I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a copy of A History of Grayson County, Kentucky: 1810-1958 by Duvall Morrison. I grew up in Shrewsbury and I believe my Dad, Herman Whitaker, worked for him years ago. I would not only love to have a copy for historical reasons, but sentimental as well.

Thank you,
Anita (Whitaker) Mudd Montgomery

Hello Caneyville and Grayson County: I am James H. (Jim) Smith, 1958 graduate of Clarkson High School. I left Clarkson in 1959 to join the Air Force and never returned except to visit. Since leaving Clarkson, I have lived in FL, Thule, Greenland, KY, WV, LA, GA and NC. Now in Charlotte, NC for the past 26 years. My brother, Carl "Moon" Smith still lives in Leitchfield and is now the Fire Chief. My sister, Marietta, lives in Radcliff. When I read the Guest Book, I recognized many names and remember Doris and Pat Tully because they both went to school at Clarkson. I too remember the joyful and sad bus rides on the school bus from basketball games at Caneyville and Leitchfield, not mention many other small towns. We always referred to Caneyville as our favored county cousin but not Leitchfield.

I just ordered and received Larry Small's book, The Sandstone Rock. I have read it and I can tell you that if you were in Grayson County in the late 50s or early 60s, you will thoroughly enjoy the book. You will be reminded of a significant event that occurred in Leitchfield on April 19, 1958. Although it is purely fictional and it disclaims any truth, you can relate the stories to actual events and places. I had to pinch myself many times to be reminded that I was reading fiction and not a true story. I recommend you get the book and read it, you will think you are back in Leitchfield in to 50s and 60s. Regards to all in Grayson County, great book Larry and great web site for Purple Flash, Jim Smith, Charlotte, NC
